King Akhenaton, one of the most famous kings of the Eighteenth Dynasty, ruled Egypt for 17 years and died perhaps in 1336 BC or 1334 BC.  Akhenaten tried to iron out the traditional religion, but was ultimately unacceptable.  After his death, traditional religious practice was gradually restored, and after a few years some rulers were not without clear rights of succession from the Eighteenth Dynasty, so they established a new family, and damaged the reputation of Akhenaton and his successors, referring to Akhenaton himself as the "enemy" in archival records.
