Glyptodons! Neither dinosaurs nor archaeology (in case you wondered) – but really cool creatures! Discovered by an Argentinian farmer on the banks of the Vallimanca stream, the four glyptodons here (second picture) died in this place pretty much at the same time – an incredible find that certainly made palaeontologists happy. The glyptodons are sort of cousins of the modern armadillos but could grow up to 3m and 1.5 tonnes. They lived in South America starting around 30 million years ago and probably “disappeared” around 10,000 years ago together with other megafauna upon the arrival of humans.
